TIRA Cares: CSR Initiative Supports Girls Through Insurance Education and Menstrual Health

Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA), in collaboration with insurance sector stakeholders, has extended its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support to girls at Nyankumbu Girls Secondary School in Geita, combining insurance education with support for menstrual health.

During the initiative, students received education on the importance of insurance and how it helps individuals, families and communities protect themselves, their property and livelihoods against different risks. The session also helped the girls understand the role of TIRA in regulating and developing the insurance sector in Tanzania.

Speaking during the programme, Mr. Jerry Mwantuke, Senior Insurance Statistician from TIRA, explained how insurance provides financial protection when unexpected events occur. He also introduced the students to the role of the Tanzania Insurance Ombudsman (TIO) in helping resolve insurance-related disputes and protecting the interests of insurance consumers.

Beyond insurance education, the CSR initiative also focused on the well-being of the girls, with sanitary pads provided to support menstrual hygiene. The initiative reflected TIRA’s commitment to reaching communities with both knowledge and practical support, while creating opportunities for young girls to learn, stay confident and continue with their education.

Through initiatives like this, TIRA continues to connect insurance education with community needs, demonstrating that CSR is not only about giving back, but also about empowering communities with knowledge, care and support.
